Facebook Fan Page 2.0, Socially Friendly

Last Friday - 11 Feb 2011, Facebook announced new fan page upgrades that has started to roll-out, as usual Facebook has been really busy rolling our more new services, from live commenting, photo browser, etc.

Here are just some of the new FB Fan Page 2.0 features on the surface:
  • First thing, the business page now looks more social friendly, instead of looking like a business now it looks like a friend. So you might as well be friend with the product/service/brand you like. When you navigate as a fan page in Facebook world, the notification bar will pull latest posts, messages and new fans.
  • You can navigate the brave Facebook world and see the news feed from a company perspective.
  • Photos uploaded by you or fans will be displayed now on the top head bar, like your personal profile.
  • Profile picture is now reduced to 180×540 pixels.
  • Tab is now gone and moved to the left side, again like personal profile.
  • You can feature the business owner or page admin profile on the left side, so people will know who is representing the business.
  • Static FBML will also be going away, developers are encouraged to move to iFrame module.
  • You can now comment as a person or a company YAY!
On the back end side of things:
  • Stronger spam fighting going on here, see my last post.
  • Notification send via email when people post on your page, kind of the same thing Hyper Alerts was doing. Although I wish there is a setting for frequency.
  • Add feature like pages, so you can show your partner or separate business from your company that is connected.
  • Finally you can now fix your category if you've previously entered the wrong category.
Here are some of the news and blog posts in regards to Facebook page changes:
Now whether you like it or not, Facebook will be upgrading the Fan Page by March, so marketers get ready, stop complaining and get used to it.

LinkedIn Companies Beta Update

Finally got a chance to have a closer look at LinkedIn Companies Beta after my last review, this latest update will give business owners the professional opportunities such as featuring product or service, gets recommendation and video introduction of their company.

The process are relatively easy:
  • Make sure you have one of your company email address confirmed (see here), otherwise you will not be able to see the edit company.
  • Several items that I'd recommend prepared in advance would be what's the nature of your business, the product you are trying to sell, consider the keywords that are related to your business, 100x80 pixels photo, key features, promotions, direct url to your website in regards to the service, your key contact persons and a professional video url via YouTube. I might also add, it might be beneficial to offer something free as sneak peek or incentive for those that discover your company or product via LinkedIn giving a bit of exclusivity.
  • You'll also get the customized company url free & automatic, might be a good idea to grab their badge and put it on your website.
It is also possible to add the company's twitter and RSS feed from your blog, however I have not seen it show up anyway, maybe a future feature?
As well as posting job openings available at your company, you can put it job description, who to contact and an optional referral fee.
However I have not seen the linkedin analytics yet, it might be available to premium members only.

Dell being one of the pioneering social commerce have start tap dancing around the linkedin companies profile, have a look at their company product & services here. Currently they have over 63,000 followers and several of their fans have started giving product recommendations. Click here for the full article feature on linkedin blog.
